About the course

If you want to become an assessor and work with students and learners to assess their qualifications then you will need a level 3 assessing qualification.

Complete a level 3 assessing qualification online with Footstep Training.

There are various options within Assessing and it is important to know what your aim is in relation to what you will be assessing to choose the correct qualification. See below for more information.

The full Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement qualification is an online distance learning course and is aimed at those who wish to become an assessor in both occupational and vocational skills.

Occupational skills are related to work-based environments, such as someone who needs to be assessed as an apprentice, and vocational skills are related to classroom-based environments, such as someone who needs to be assessed on a commercial course.

On successful completion, it will fully qualify you to work as an assessor to assess in your area of expertise.

Course Requirements

You will need to be occupationally competent in the area you wish to assess and to complete the qualification you need to have access to a minimum of two learners who are completing a course.

Your course is delivered online, therefore, internet access is required and access to a video camera to record a practical observation.

You will need access to a minimum of 2 learners which you must arrange yourself.

You will need to be observed once with each learner. You can do this internally by getting a qualified assessor to observe you, or we will observe you via video evidence.

The full assessor qualification on average takes 2-3 months to complete, but this is dependent on how often you have access to you learners. If you can see your learners more than 1-2 times per month you will be able to achieve it in a quicker time. The time it takes is up to you, so if you want to complete it in 2 weeks, go for it!

At present, the registration period which is set by the Awarding Organisation for this qualification is 1 year. You will have 1 year to complete the qualification. You can re-register as long as your registration is still “live”. You will be sent an invoice for the fee which is set by Footstep Training. If you fail to pay within 14 days or your course expires you will need to pay the full course fee again which will be the current price on the website.

Alternative Study Options

You can also complete units in isolation if you do not require the full certificate.
Unit 1 – Understanding principles and practices of assessment. The knowledge and theory of assessment. This unit can be completed on its own if you just required the knowledge, or with the units below. Some awarding organisations only require you to have this unit certificate to be able to assess the qualifications.

Unit 2 – Assess occupational skills in the work environment. This unit will qualify you to assess people in any work environment that you are competent in. This qualification will enable you to assess standards of work and qualifications that are delivered and assessed in occupational environments. You will need this unit if you intend on working with apprentices and work-based learning qualifications.

Unit 3 – Assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding. This unit will qualify you to assess accredited vocational courses. If you plan on assessing qualifications delivered in classroom environments you will need this unit. This is the most popular unit to have if you want to work as an assessor.
