Over the next few weeks, we will look at how to develop digital leaders and the role all our stakeholders can play in this crucial task. If high quality digital specialists are to be recruited and retained it requires different stakeholders to take action.
Recruiting managers and HR professionals need to:
- Look for early career entrants from non-traditional routes, such as direct from school, into apprenticeships and through partnerships with third-sector organisations as well as traditional graduate entry.
- Publicise stories of how working in digital public service jobs can make a difference to people’s lives, in order to spark interest in high quality school leavers and graduates.
- Adopt a broad vision when recruiting so that managers from diverse backgrounds are attracted.
- Remove barriers to working across sectors to enable digital experts to have secondments, reverse mentoring and placements from industry and public services.
